Mimi Ferlin introduced legendary Husky quarterback, Damon Huard, who went on to play 12 years in NFL, back-up QB to Dan Marino. So, Huard played for the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs and won two Super Bowl rings with the Patriots. Damon now works at UW athletic Department. (See yesterday's article in Seattle Times about the new Husky stadium proposal).

Damon gave an entertaining talk on UW football. His officail title is "Major Gifts Officer". The athletic department is it's own self-sustaining department - really a business on its own which even makes a profit ($61M revenue and $60M expenses). New stadium proposal would cost $250M to build. Current stadium is actually about 90 years old. The proposal is for the stadium to pay $14.3M / year on a $200M loan. It will be state of the art new design. It would move the students to the end zone (controversial), but this will result in extra $3M in revenue for the new seating created near 50-yard line. And sadly it's a lot about recruiting too: The new football recruits are still kids and they often make their decision on who to play for based on things like the nicer stadium venue. The track will be moved to a separate, new facility located out by soccer fields for $10M. This will allow the stadium seating to be right up closer to the field. There will be 2500 club seats, only 6% seats will be luxury. Pricing will go up for the premium seats, but most tix will still be very affordable.

A light rail station currently being built just to the south of stadium along the Montlake cut, and it won't be complete until 2016! But it will be nice when its done and will tie in with the downtown/SeaTac system.

Schedule for completion: Next season will be the last season in the old stadium, then 2011 and 12 they will play at Qwest Field, before they'll move back to the completed stadium in 2013 season.
