Bill Gorman reported that we are hosting a 5-member Group Study Exchange (GSA) group from Northern Ireland April 13-17 ( 4 nights). We still need 3 homesteads for them, please let Bill know if you can help. We are putting together a good program for them here.

Lesa Boxx: The International Committee Fundraising Dinner will take place 6pm on Friday May 20th at the Ciao Thyme catering space (207 Unity Street) and will feature the culinary work of Chef Mateo Gillis (of Ciao Thyme) and Chef Josh Silverman (of Nimbus Restaurant). Bill Gorman presented Anna the final check ($33K) of our Rotary commitment to the new Hospice House project.

Student of the Month: Scotty introduced Caitlin Donahue, and her mom & dad, Amy & Mike Donahue. Caitlin is a senior at Squalicum HS who has worked over 250 hours of volunteer time for Bellingham Parks and Rec. Scotty presented her with a $100 check. Congratulations, Caitlin!

Program
Dennis introduced Dick Irwin and David Cross from Burlington, who told us about their upcoming project called "Remembering 9/11 - a Ceremony of Remembrance".  The event will be seven musical performances during September 9, 10 and 11, at McIntyre Hall at Skagit Valley Community College. They hope to raise at least $129K of which $70K will go to scholarships and the remainder to projects that work towards a goal of "peace and conflict resolution".

  • Rick Vale, a well know musician and composer, agreed to compose an original musical score for the event called "September Requiem", and also to come and play piano at the event;
  • A 60-piece orchestra will play, along with a 100-voice choir;
  • A bag-pipe band will perform;
  • Jennifer Bowman donated three original paintings for the event;
  • A military "color guard" will perform;
  • Navel Air Station at Whidbey will send jets for a fly-over during the event;
  • There will be a 21-gun salute;
  • There will be participation from the local fire and police forces;
  • The Rotary International President, Ray Klinginsmith, will attend and speak at the event;
  • Public Broadcasting Sysytem (PBS) may come and broadcast the event live;

What do we need? Please spread the word, post posters, advertise the event in your company newsletters, ask for volunteers, and look for grants and funding.
