Susie Betts introduced John Moon, executive director of Habitat for Humanity. HFH is about building homes for low-income people.  HFH also developes land, finances homes, sells homes.

About Habitat for Humanity:  It is run like a franchise, so the local organization has its own board.  The local chapter is starting their 32nd house this year.

Qualifying for a HFH home: low income (living in substandard conditions), live locally, must $500 down payment, must put in swear equity.

Raising money through several programs: Contractor's club, Carpenter's club, sponsorships, "Cars for homes".  Also Habitat store, volunteering opportunities, and the Apostles' Build program (a group of 12 churches that sponsor the construction of new houses).

John introduced Kendra Meyer, HFH store director.  She explained HFH's "Women Build" program:  This program encourages women to make a difference by building homes and communities. HFH's second Women Build is slated to break ground in April of 2012.  They are looking for donors and organizers to help get ready to build, and for volunteers and fundraisers.  Building experience is always welcome, but is never required.

If you would like to learn more about getting involved please contact the volunteer coordinator at 360-715-9170 or volunteer@hfhwhatcom.org.
