Board has met and vetted the four finalist “Major Projects” applicants for our major project recipient. More news to be announced soon.
 
Fellowship event: Jim Haupt will be putting together a wine event 6-7:30pm, April 27th. The event will be hosted by a wine buyer from Italy, will feature Italian wines and appies, Bellwether Hotel owner Andre Molnar will be there as well. More details next week!

New Member Talks
 
Karen Burke gave us a quiz on her biography. She is director of DVSAS. Previous worked at Lummi Nation at tribal court coordinator. Has a son graduating from Qwest University (BC), her partner is named Paula, she has been in Bellingham 21 years, originally from Pueblo CO, graduated from WWU Fairhaven College, loves skiing, rowing and biking.
 
Jim Logghe was born in Reno NV, grew up in Vancouver WA, went to army in the late ’60's, came up to attend WWU after the army, then worked as a banker, eventually rising to become senior lender at Banner Bank.  He retired in 2008, spent a couple years in retirement, but then the bank invited him back  to work as reverse mortgage lender.  His wife is named Susan, and prior to banking Jim was a successful rock musician! Jim explained some of the basics of reverse lending, how it works, and a couple examples of people who have used reversed mortgage.  Jim is also a former of member of BBRC back when it at the Leopold!
 
Sven Gilkey is executive director of the local Boy Scouts of America.  Sven is getting married on Saturday!  Born and grew up in Fairbanks AK and loved it, loves the outdoors. He has three sisters, and he attended college in AK.  Sven described the activities and purpose of Boy Scouts, teaching all kinds of important life skills to young people.  Whatcom County is the best place in the world if you love the outdoors!  His job is mainly to raise money, recruit community leaders, and also recruit kids into the Boy Scouts program!
