Sergeant at Arms by Stan Dyer

Fined everyone who has never been to Honduras. Fined Bob for driving to lunch even though it was really close. Fined Sonja for her sister not being in attendance. Fined Bill Geyer for being "sassy." Fined John Sleath because he lost his wallet. Fined John Templeton for seeing him at Costco over the weekend with an empty shopping cart. Fined Orphalee for not picking up the raffle money last week. Fined Tim Krell's table because Tim was so generous.

Program

Carolyn Meub of Pure Water for the World

  • Headquartered out of Carolyn's house in Vermont where she works with 2 assistants. · Carolyn is the 2nd Executive Director · She loves this idea because it essentially was founded on the Rotary principles.
  • It was founded after a Rotarian from Vermont traveled to Honduras on a medical mission. The biggest eye opener on his trip was how much disease was due to water borne illnesses.
  • It was very inspiring because all it took was one Rotarian's idea, and now it is an international project
  • It began as a small Rotary group, then Unicef got involved and asked for them to help out in Trojes, Honduras.
  • The clean water projects benefit individuals in Honduras and Haiti who make about $1 per day.
  • The biggest effort is to teach these individuals hygiene, as they have never been taught how to wash and clean themselves.
  • 25% of the world does not have clean water
  • 40% of diseases can be eliminated by simply washing your hands!
  • The water filters that they take to these remote locations can weigh as much as 300 pounds.
  • In an effort to keep the program alive and well, Pur Water for the World employs 10 people in Honduras, and 16 people in Haiti. These employees are on the ground teaching hygiene and water filter maintenance
  • There is a lot of follow up with the program to ensure that progress is being made and keep it moving in the right direction.
