Program
Jim Johnson talked about child slavery, and our club's role in helping eradicate this scourge.  Jim was introduced to the subject at a Rotary conference in Birmingham, England in 2009.  There are 2 to 3 times the number of slaves today as in the 1800s.  50 to 60% of slaves are children.  There are 12 to 27 million slaves in the world.  Slavery is a $32 billion a year business in 161 countries.  Slave made goods are sold in the United States.  Slaves have no freedom, nutrition, hygiene, and education.  India allows anti-slave efforts.  Help is through schools and missions.  Most slaves are orphans.  Children are sold to pay parent’s debts.  Our Club donated $2500 to a Thailand project.
