Announcements 

Brewers by the Bay - Steve Brummel reported the event had a fantastic outcome, great weather, special thanks to the org committee, and many others who contributed to the cause.  Don't yet know the numbers but it looks like they will be bigger than past years!  Anna recognized the new members who agreed to cook at the grill.

Anna reported on our club's initiative to sponsor a Rotaract club (college age young adults).

Denise report on Bellingham Bay Rotary Foundation total contribution for first half of 2011 has been $12K to date, which puts the new fund's total at over $150K. 

Bucks in the Bay

  • Lance complimented Steve for working at Brewers the day after his wedding, and Todd for working on his wedding annivesary!
  • Leena plugged the upcoming Boys&Girls Club golf tournament Aug 5 at Lake Padden, $100 per person includes cart and lunch.  Raffle tix are $10/ea.
  • Brent Walker talked about Brewers;
  • Donna Edquist saw a Katy Perry and a Bill Medley concert (not appearing together), attended Steve Brummel's wedding, then Brewers, so it's been an AWESOME week!
  • Harold Scott worked ticket-taker at Brewers, told a funny story;
  • Mark Turner worked the grill, had fun, some missed meetings while travelling up and down the coast;
  • Steve Swan said he heard comments that Brewers is the best beer-tasting event around, also WWU was rated best places to work;
  • Patty Imhof was out in the islands over the weekend at a groundbreaking for new Peacehealth hospital Friday Harbor;
  • Mary Humphries had a great time at Brewers, also birth of her first granddaughter!
  • Jim Johnson $100 for foundation, missed meeting while on five-week road trip as far east as Wisconsin visiting family, also some varmint hunting;
  • Eddie Hansen great week attending Kenny Chesney concert, Steve's wedding was incredible, WWU catering served fabulous food;
  • Steve Brummel so glad the weather cooperated for his wedding and Brewers;
  • Denise's husband turning 50 today, enjoyed pouring beer, and said she has been hired at Natures Path as HR director!
  • Debbie Kiene had fun at Brewers, she is also helping with the Boys&Girls Club golf tournament selling $10 raffle tickets;
  • Stan Dyer congratulated Steve, $105 to the Foundation;
  • John Templeton had fun setting up for Brewers;
  • Glen Groenig been feeling like Eeyore for the past week.

New member talks
 
Mark Turner came to Bellingham in 1990 and worked up at WWU until 1993. He got his masters degree from Kent State U, BA from Rochester University, and grew up in Glenville, WV.  He loves it in Bellingham.  He works as photographer, specializing in gardens and landscaping (for magazines and other publications), native plants (a 2006 bestseller book, working on a second one) covering the West Coast.  Also recently has started doing more Bellingham photography and a book, contributed some photos for the book "Whatcom Places" too.  He also does some family portraits.  
 
Tony Freeland grew up in Tennesee, attended the U of Tennesee, served as a US army officer (under Norman Schwarzkopf), then Tony worked as an engineer for 21 years, the last 10 of which as his own firm.  Tony's son is at U of Oregon and daughter studying in Portland.  Freeland Engineering has worked on many local projects, including (donated his services to Food Bank and Hospice House), Bellwether Building, Wilson Furniture, new Key Bank downtown, Hardware Sales, Cowden Concrete, Kenoyer condo project above Boulevard Park, Superfeet, among many others.  He has a staff of five and they do over a hundred projects each year.
 
Brad drew his own number and won the lottery!
