StoveTeam
Our program about StoveTeam was powerful. For those of you who missed the program, or want to share this information with others, here’s some information. StoveTeam facilitates the placement of low-some, fuel-efficient, safe cook stoves around the world:
- Smoke from indoor cooking fires is a leading cause of death of children under age five. It kills more people than AIDS and malaria combined
- The most dangerous activity a woman in the developing world can undertake is cooking for her family, and most of them have a baby on the front or a baby on the back. For that baby, it’s equivalent to smoking three packs of cigarettes per day.
- 4 million burns are reported each year, and many more go unreported. Children are especially vulnerable as most open fires are on or near the ground.
Ways to learn more:
- For anyone who missed the presentation, here is an interactive pre-recorded version of the presentation: https://video.mindstamp.io/watch/DSrtypWyPFIa

StoveTeam is currently focusing on our Justa stove project in Guatemala. Our goal is to install 5,000 cookstoves into homes in the next 3 years. We are working on gathering club and district support to fund our efforts and would welcome any support from your club or advice on approaching your district. There is more information about the Justa project on our website at stoveteam.org/justa-stove and you can download a project description PDF here.
