Happy Holidays Bellingham Bay Rotary ~ The lunch meeting this week will be a club business meeting as we need to be thinking about a new director positions on the board as a few members are in their second year of a two year term. At the last Board meeting we discussed dues and lunches. This is a topic I hope to be able to speak about generally with membership in advance of a Board meeting this coming Thursday where some decisions will be made that will be coming back to membership for a vote after the new year. If you could find a way to attend on Tuesday, that would be appreciated. I have sent a separate message to the Board to be sure that we will have a quorum for the meeting on Thursday, 12/21.
Tresha continues to post current photos on our web page – a couple of the Bell Ringing Experience at Fairhaven are kind of fun. I will try to get in touch with the contact there, Major Malone to see if there is a count of the money that made it to the red bucket that we were tending. Speaking of raising money, there was a good dose of generosity at the BBRC Holiday Rotario at the Krell House on Tuesday evening, 12/12. Thanks again to Lesa and Robyn (my wife as a hostess, not a Rotary member) for the effort in set up and take down. Also to Lesa for the wine and Tony Freeland for funding food. I did have beer available, but those in attendance were mainly wine drinkers so, more beer for me!
As you recall we asked for a $100 donation per person. There were additional amounts provided including $500 from Mr. and Mrs. Dye and Mr. and Mrs. Krell, $300 from The Talbots and a $1,000 check from Jim Haupt. All tolled we raised another $3,500 for the Food Bank. With the donation from Brent Walker in the amount of $4,000 we are at $7,500. As mentioned, I had made a challenge to the club to raise an even $10,000. I have the okay to direct funds at Bucks in the Bay on Tuesday to the cause. If there are members out there who want to give, but are not able to get to the meeting on Tuesday, please contact the Food Bank directly to make a donation in the name of Bellingham Bay Rotary. Anyone able to do so should also let me know so we are sure we have an accurate count. Thanks again to all who participated in the Holiday event. The Christmas carols sung by the Squalicum choir were a very nice touch.
