Program
Tresha introduced Dawn Alex and Jodi Newcomer, who talked about their work at Whatcom Hospice (http://whatcomhospice.org). Whatcom Hospice provides palliative (end of life) care for a whole range of people, for free, wherever they are, even the homeless. Hospice also has Whatcom County’s only residential hospice facility, Hospice House (funding for the construction of which was provided by BBRC in 2008).
How to get enrolled into Hospice? Hospice can send someone or they can visit Hopsice to determine if someone meets the criteria for palliative care and enrollment into Hospice.
Whatcom Hospice has a foundation which is an independent charitable organization that raises funds and builds community awareness to support of Hospice. The Foundation owns and maintains the Whatcom Hospice Campus, including Whatcom County’s only residential hospice facility, Hospice House.
