New Member Induction: Stan introduced Kendall Pickerill, Asst. Manager at the Bellwether Hotel, sponsored by Stan. born in Scottsdale, AZ, moved to Bainbridge when she was six. Father a Rotarian since 2001. Kendall in her youth was involved in Rotaract (with sister) and fundraising for that club. She graduated at WWU in French and Business, and was hired last year as business manager at the Hotel Bellwether. Kendall is excited to help with our club's PR, water projects, and other efforts. Stan gave some facts on history of Rotary.

  • We need new members. 
  • Stan's letter resulted in big turnout today! 
  • We would like to send 2 or 3 young people to RYLA. RYLA registration (online only!) will take place May 2-5, 2013 at Mt Baker Baptist Camp. Our club will cover the fee. Our club can sponsor up to four kids. Ages are 18-25.

Old (as in long-time) Member Talks 

Sue Sharp said she born in Seattle, grew up in Ohio, Ohio University, moved to Seattle in 1973, then moved to WWU in 74 graduated in '77 in broadcasting, worked with Pete Kremen, then MBA from WWU in '84, married in '80. Worked at SJH in various positions, new service development, then private consulting working with SJH and many nonprofits, Whatcom Community Foundation, plug for St. Lukes Foundation 30-years old this year, recently appointed to board of director at WWU, two daughters, older daughters was n the HS team that won 4 straight State golf victories now lives in CO. Younger daughter is world traveler now in university in KY. Enjoyed her year as president of this club in 97-98 (?) went on trip to Russia to sponsor a new club in Nakhodka. 

Dick Stark born and raised in Bellingham. Went to UW, JV basketball team, announced for the basketball team. Went to work on fish trap in AK, then drafted into army where he spent two years in various posts around the country. Went back to university, this time WWU, some radio gigs during college "Stark 'til Dark". Then after college working for radio station doing sales, DJ'ing and announcing. He received stock in KAFE and KPUG. Got to meet some famous musicians, politicians, sports celebrities, etc. Met his wife Ardith in the cafe at WWU, four kids. Very involved in Boys&Girls Club over the years, active with church (Birchwood Presbyterian). Retired six years ago. Still does some basketball announcing. Has loved being involved in Rotary. Kendall wins the raffle!
