Student of the Month 
Scotty says our students now get $100 honorarium, plus a $100 donation to a charity of the student’s choice.
Our September SOM, Ellie Lussier, chose Homeport Learning Center for her charity recipient.
Michelle Nilson, the Squalicum councilor, introduced Elle and her dad Jon Lussier.   Michelle said Elle worked as a summer councilor among other volunteer work, serving the community with her heart.  Elle came up and spoke, saying she has especially enjoyed working with kids, and that she is very grateful for the recognition from our club.
 
 
Bucks in the Bay
  • Chuck Walter for an Iowa Hawk-eye football victory and Iowa State college reunion, bought a new house, has been chosen to represent US oral surgeons in Barcelona at the International Meeting, and finally he is retiring - there will be a party on Thursday 4-7pm at BGCC for all who can make it!
  • Scott Walker plug for his company’s "Ladies Night" Thursday Sept 26th 5-9pm with all kinds of activities (wine tasting, raffles, etc.) there;
  • Jill Reid announced B&G Clubs have Heather Powell joining team as CPO (chief professional officer);
  • Bill Geyer for missed meeting drove to Eugene OR for football game with Tony Freeland, then stayed for visit with granddaughter, came home to be at birth of 4th grandchild;
  • Stephanie Sadler for missed meeting while on trips all over the world!
  • Mark Turner was chosen to be a speaker at the Seattle Home and Garden show in February;
  • Bill Gorman recognized Bill Unaries’ efforts to find the new B&G Clubs’ CPO, also announced WCC will be home to the center for Cyber Security
  • Margarita for son starting college, she is now an empty nester, and the grape harvest season started so we won't be seeing her for a few weeks!
  • Mimi Ferlin sad for end of summer, but glad for successful Husky/Seahawk football season.
  • Kendall’s husband got job with Fluke, and they are provbably moving to Lake Samish area.

New Member Talks
 
Jill Reid was born in Clear Lake WA, attended Sedro-Woolley HS, worked on a dairy farm growing up, was the Dairy Princess ‘92-’93, was a Rotary Student of the Month ’92.  Attended Skagit Valley College, then Central WA University majored in recreation management.  Married Carl Reid after college, have a beloved German Shepard named Jupiter.  Carl bought a towing business (now called Carl’s Towing) in 2006, Jill helps out a lot too. 14 years with Skagit B&G Club.  In February 2013 she joined Whatcom B&G as branch director.  Jill talked about all the wonderful programs offered by B&G Clubs.
 
Andy Clay has worked as nurse, nursing administration, healthcare consultant, Humane Society, teacher, more recently owner of Mt Baker Care Center & Kenyan School Funder. Andy read an Email she wrote this morning to her son Beck, who is with Sea Shepards onboard a vessel currently off the coast of South Africa.  She also read an inspirational poem by Rudyard Kipling called "If".
